Joining Information
Scouting doesn't have to end when you are 18.... in fact several of our leaders were not involved as young people. Scouts has a lot to offer for people of all ages, to both males and females, to those that have a lot of time to offer and those that are only able to help out on an irregular basis. Not all volunteers need to be Bear Grylls, or know how to build a shelter or light a fire; not all volunteers need to have young people involved in the movement or have experience of Scouts or working with young people...
All volunteers need to be willing to have fun, need to be willing to work as part of a proactive team, need to be willing to give it a go and need to be able to operate a kettle. That is pretty much it!!!
Some of us turn up on a weekly basis and run or help run a section; be that Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Explorers. This does involve being a bit flexible with times and having patience with some of the members and leaders at times, but we promise it is worth it!! If this appeals to you then come and say 'hi', email us at 1stkingsdowngroup@gmail.com to find out when we are meeting and drop by for a chat.
We also have a number of volunteers that are not able to commit to a weekly basis and turn up on a more ad hoc basis, when they are around or when support is needed. They also choose to attend the larger events that require more man (or woman) power and are brilliant fun. If this interests you then please email us at 1stkingsdowngroup@gmail.com, or stop and chat to the leaders to see what we are up to and what may interest you.
All leaders are required to download a DBS form before attending events and working directly with young people, if you are interested then please complete and hand into the group for processing.
Get in touch; if you are a family member of someone in Scouting and think Scouting looks fun, if you are bored in the evenings and looking for a new challenge or experience or even if you think one of the activities looks interesting.
